In effect from 23 September 2026
The short version
One email address enters you in every prize that month. No purchase, no payment, nothing to buy. You must be nineteen or older and live in Canada outside Quebec. Winners answer a skill-testing question before the prize is handed over, because Canadian law requires it.
No purchase necessary
No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or to win, and buying something does not improve your chances. Entry is free.
Who can enter
- You must be nineteen years of age or older at the time of entry, which is the legal drinking age in Ontario.
- You must be a resident of Canada, excluding the Province of Quebec. Quebec is excluded because its contest rules impose registration, filing and fee requirements that a monthly draw of this size cannot reasonably meet.
- Employees of Niagara Winery Weekly, of a prize sponsor, and members of their immediate families or households, may not enter.
- Void where prohibited or restricted by law.
How to enter
Subscribe to the Niagara Winery Weekly email with a valid address. That is the entry, and it enters you into every prize drawn that month rather than one of them.
One entry per person per monthly draw. Multiple addresses belonging to the same person count as one entry, and entries submitted by automated means, bulk entry services or any method other than the signup form on this site are void.
You remain entered in each subsequent monthly draw for as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, you are no longer entered.
Entry period and draw dates
Each monthly draw closes at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on the last day of that calendar month. Entries received after that time go into the following month’s draw.
Each winner is selected at random from all eligible entries within five business days of the close of the entry period. The random selection is final.
Odds of winning
The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received for that draw. The number of entrants is not published in advance, and by its nature it changes until the entry period closes.
Prizes
Prizes are donated by Niagara wineries and other partners, and are described on the giveaway page for the month in question, including their approximate retail value.
- Each prize is awarded as described. There is no cash alternative and prizes are not transferable or exchangeable.
- We may substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the one described becomes unavailable.
- Prizes involving alcohol are awarded only to winners who are of legal drinking age, and are subject to the terms of the donating winery, including how and where they may be collected.
- Travel, accommodation and transport to collect a prize are the winner’s responsibility and are not included. How a prize reaches the winner — collected in person, or shipped by the winery — is covered in the next section.
- Any taxes arising from a prize are the winner’s responsibility.
Delivery of prizes, and wine in particular
We are not a liquor retailer. We hold no liquor licence, we do not sell, supply, store or ship alcohol, and we take no part in the sale of it. Where a prize includes wine, that wine belongs to the donating winery until the winner receives it, and it is supplied and delivered by that winery under its own licence, its own terms and the liquor laws that apply to it.
What that means in practice:
- Many prizes are experiences — tastings, tours, dinners — and are redeemed in person at the winery, on dates and terms the winery sets.
- Where wine is shipped, the winery arranges it. Delivery within Ontario is ordinarily straightforward. Delivery to another province depends on whether that winery is registered and authorised to ship there, which is a matter between the winery and the provinces concerned and is not something we control.
- Interprovincial direct-to-consumer alcohol shipping in Canada is governed by a framework the provinces agreed in 2026 and are still implementing. Access is not uniform, not automatic, and in several provinces requires the producer to register first. A winery may simply not be able to ship to where a winner lives.
- Where a wine prize cannot lawfully or practically be delivered to the winner, it may be collected in person at the winery instead, or we may substitute a prize of equal or greater value, or the winner may decline it.
- Unless the prize description says otherwise, shipping within Ontario is arranged at no cost to the winner. Delivery elsewhere, where it is possible at all, may be at the winner’s cost, and that will be stated before the prize is accepted.
Alcohol is delivered only to a person of legal drinking age. The winery or its courier will require valid government photo identification and a signature on delivery. Alcohol will not be left unattended, will not be handed to anyone under age, and will not be delivered to anyone who appears intoxicated. A delivery refused on any of those grounds is treated as a prize the winner chose not to collect.
Once a prize leaves our hands — and in the case of wine it never enters them — fulfilment is between the winner and the winery. We will help if something goes wrong, because it is our draw and our reputation, but we are not the seller and cannot be responsible for the winery’s delivery, packaging, timing or stock.
Skill-testing question
Canadian law requires that a prize in a contest of chance be awarded only to an entrant who correctly answers a question testing mathematical skill. The selected entrant must answer, unaided, a time-limited arithmetical question put to them by email before the prize is confirmed.
Winner notification
We contact the selected entrant using the email address they entered with, and will make reasonable attempts to reach them. If they do not respond, correctly answer the skill-testing question and confirm they meet the eligibility conditions within seven days of the first attempt, the prize is forfeited and another entrant is drawn.
We are not responsible for entries or notifications that are lost, delayed, misdirected, filtered as spam, or sent to an address that has been mistyped or abandoned.
Publicity
By accepting a prize, the winner agrees that their first name and the town or city they live in may be published in our newsletter and on this site, and given to the sponsor who donated the prize. We do not publish full names, email addresses or photographs without asking first, and a winner may decline publicity while still accepting the prize.
Sponsors, and what they receive
Prizes are donated by wineries and other partners, and this section says plainly what they get in return, because it concerns your information.
A sponsor receives the name and town of the winner, so the prize can be handed over. A sponsor also receives exposure: their prize and a link are included in emails we send, and their name appears on the giveaway page. Where a sponsor wants to reach entrants, we send that message ourselves, to our own list, on their behalf.
Entrant email addresses are not given to sponsors. If that ever changes, we will ask for your permission separately and by name at the point of entry, entry will not be conditional on granting it, and this section will say so before it happens rather than afterwards.
Your personal information
Information collected when you enter is handled in accordance with our privacy policy, which explains what we collect, how it is used and how you can access, correct or delete it. Entering also subscribes you to our email, which you may leave at any time using the unsubscribe link in any message — though doing so also removes you from future draws.
Changes and cancellation
We may amend these rules, suspend a draw, or cancel or replace a prize where circumstances outside our reasonable control make it necessary, including where a sponsor withdraws or a prize becomes unavailable. Amended rules take effect when posted here.
We may disqualify any entrant we reasonably believe has tampered with the entry process, entered by prohibited means, or acted in breach of these rules.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, Niagara Winery Weekly and prize sponsors are not liable for any loss, damage or injury arising from participation in a draw or from acceptance, possession or use of a prize. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
Where a draw is promoted on a social media platform, it is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with that platform, and you release the platform from any responsibility for it.
Governing law
These rules are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable in it, and any dispute belongs in the courts of Ontario.
