Terms of use

The short version

We gather event and winery information and publish it as accurately as we can. Things change — times move, events are cancelled, wineries close for a private function. Always confirm with the winery before you drive out. Paid placements are always labelled. Editorial picks are not for sale.

Who this site is for

This site carries information about alcohol. It is intended for people who are of legal drinking age in the place they are reading it from, which in Ontario is nineteen. If you are not, please do not use it.

We do not sell alcohol

This site is a publication. We hold no liquor licence, we sell no wine, and we take no part in any sale. When you buy from a winery — in its tasting room, through a link from here, or as part of a prize — that sale is between you and the winery, under its terms and its licence. Prices, stock, shipping, delivery and returns are theirs to answer for, not ours.

Event information

This is the most important section on this page, so it is near the top rather than buried.

Event details are gathered from the wineries themselves — their own websites, newsletters and public listings — and checked before they appear. We publish facts: date, time, price, what it is. We do not reproduce a venue’s marketing copy as though it were ours.

But we do not run these events and we are not told when they change. An event can be moved, sold out, rescheduled or cancelled after we publish it, and the first we know of it may be after you have driven there. Treat everything here as a good reason to check rather than as a guarantee. Confirm with the winery before travelling, particularly for anything ticketed or far from home.

If you find something wrong, tell us. Corrections are the fastest thing we do.

Winery details and awards

Details about each winery — address, hours, what it offers — come from that winery’s own website, and we record the date we checked. Anything we could not confirm is left out rather than guessed at. Hours in particular change seasonally in Niagara, and a winery is the authority on its own opening times, not us.

Awards are taken from published competition results. We record the competition, the year, the wine and the medal as the judging body published them. We do not judge wine, we do not score it, and a medal listed here is that competition’s opinion rather than ours.

Paid placements

Some listings are paid for by the winery. Every one of them is labelled as featured, wherever it appears, with no exceptions and no subtler wording.

Editorial choices — what we pick for the weekend, what goes in the email, what we recommend — are not for sale, and no payment moves a winery into them. A paid placement buys prominence in a listing. It does not buy an opinion.

Our content, and other people’s

The writing, photographs, design and the way the information is organised on this site are ours. You are welcome to read it, print it for your own use and link to it — linking to us is a favour, not an infringement. Please do not republish substantial parts of it commercially, or copy the listings wholesale into another site, without asking first.

Winery names, logos and trademarks belong to those wineries. They appear here because we are writing about them, which is ordinary descriptive use and not a claim of any relationship. A winery appearing on this site has not necessarily endorsed it, and most do not yet know we exist.

Photographs are our own unless credited otherwise.

Links to other sites

We link to winery websites, booking pages, maps and ticketing services. Once you follow a link you are on somebody else’s site, under their terms and their privacy policy. We do not control what they publish, how they handle your information, or whether the page still works.

No warranty

This site is provided as it is. We work hard on accuracy and we would rather leave something out than print a fact we are unsure of — but we cannot promise the site is complete, uninterrupted, error-free, or that every detail on it is current at the moment you read it.

Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of this site or from relying on information published here — a wasted trip, a cancelled event, a booking that did not exist. That is the reason the section above asks you to confirm with the winery first.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Drinking, and getting home

Wine country is a driving region, and that is the uncomfortable part of writing about it. Please plan how you are getting home before you set out — a designated driver, a shuttle, a tour company or a room for the night. Never drive after drinking. No itinerary on this site is worth it, and any winery on it would tell you the same.

Changes

We may update these terms as the site grows. The date at the top says when they last changed.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply in it. Any dispute belongs in the courts of Ontario.
